Keeping up with the after-school routine and snacks can be hard! I have a handy printable that will help your kids stack on track. I also have tips for the morning routine as well! #fuelforschool
Holy cow. Did summer fly by for anyone else? I thought for sure that once the school year was over, things would slow down. WRONG. We just got busier. Swimming lessons, dentist appointments, family gatherings, birthdays, etc. kept us going here and there every single day. No lie. And the routines were out the window with the homework on that last day of school.
Now with school starting back up, I am thrilled to have a routine again. I function so much better that way and I can tell my kids do as well. But it can be hard. I have a nifty printable for you that should help beat the after-school rush. I also will tell you what I do to keep our mornings on track.
The first thing my kids do when they walk in the door after school is to give me any papers that I need to read/sign. That way I don’t miss a thing. Then they grab a snack and I do let them watch t.v. for 30 minutes to unwind from the day. My older kids get up early and catch the bus for an hour long ride into town. Then there is the hour long ride home. So by the time they get home, they have been gone for 9 1/2 hours. YIKES. They deserve a little rest before starting in on the homework, which comes next.
P.S. Bite sized food with toothpicks make anything funner to eat. True fact. I got these State Fair® Corn Dogs at Walmart. The best part: Less time in the kitchen means more quality time together as a family! Pair them up with some veggies or string cheese and their bellies are ready for homework!
So after homework comes packing that backpack back up. That way everything that needs to go back to school is all ready. Then my kids pick out what they want to wear for the next day and have it ready to go by their beds. That way there is no fumbling around in the morning, trying to decide what to wear. Now it’s time for chores. I keep it light on school nights since they don’t have much time. These chores include taking out the garbage, picking up the living room or feeding our outdoor cats who have adopted us. Then comes free time. My kids can do whatever they want until dinner time. How much time they have depends on how quickly they get their homework and other things done. After dinner it’s time for bedtime prep: cleaning up after free time, bathing, putting on pajamas, brushing teeth etc.

All these things we do after school help us have an easy morning the next day. Everything is ready to go the night before which just leaves the basics of getting dressed, doing hair, eating breakfast and brushing teeth. Jimmy Dean® Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick help make your morning easier. My kids love these!
You can find them in the freezer section at Walmart for a great value. I love Walmart for Back to School and quick meal solutions. My kids love dunking these into maple syrup.
Our whole family loves Jimmy Dean® Pancake & Sausage, Jimmy Dean® Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches, State Fair® Classic Corn Dogs, and State Fair® Beef Corn Dogs. Lance and I even enjoy these! Be sure to pick some up at Walmart on your next trip.
