Gardening with MiracleGro

May 9, 2014 by mandyrecipebox

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro. All opinions are 100% mine.
A while ago, I wrote about Gro Something Greater with Miracle-Gro. We always have a garden, as I wrote about here. I talked about how when we grow, we grow more than just plants. I grow work skills for my children. I grow family time. I grow love.

Where I live in Southeaster Idaho, it still freezes at night occasionally up until at least Memorial Day. So I can’t plant things that will freeze until after then. I bought some strawberry plants and MiracleGro Seed Starting Potting Mix. I have used MiracleGro in the past and love the growth it gives my plants. They do so much better than with just dirt. TLC goes a long way!

I plan on planting my strawberries in a container on my front porch like this once the temps warm up at nights:

My kids are gonna love having fresh strawberries right of the plant. I wonder if I will get any myself? My kids will help me take care of it and the rest of our garden, that’s for sure! It’s family time, whether they see it that way or not. I try to make gardening a fun time. Not a punishment. Pulling weeds is no fun, but if we want the fruit and veggies, we gotta put in the work. This momma ain’t no Little Red Hen!
Here are a few tips for gardening:

  • Line your raised bed with chicken wire to keep out gophers and moles!
  • Mulch around your newly-planted flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and trees to help reduce weeds and retain moisture.
  • You can place houseplants outside once the nights remain above 50 degrees.
  • Apply fertilizer to give the vegetable garden a good start.
  • Don’t forget to keep up with your watering, especially as the very hot weather sets in. If you don’t water enough, the roots stay near the surface, making them more succeptable to the heat. An inch of water a week is a good rule of thumb.
Hop over to Gro Something Greater and share your personal stories of gardening. Also, I would love it if you left your favorite gardening tips in the comments.
