Monster Green Smoothie
I'm sure by now that many of you have heard of green smoothies. Made with spinach or other greens and fruit that are so healthy (so much so, in fact, that I'm not sure why it's appearing on my blog!) and full of fiber and iron and protein if you use peanut butter. Here's a site to read up on the Green Monster Movement. There's also lots more recipes for variations on the green smoothie. To me it looks like a green monster got blended up. So I just can't look at it while I drink it. It's in my … [Read more...]
Easy Cinnamon Rolls with Eggnog Buttercream Frosting
I am in love with this treat. I created it and it's fantastic. If you don't like the flavor of Eggnog (rum), then you can can use milk instead of the eggnog and vanilla extract (or other flavor) in place of the rum extract. The great thing about this recipe (other than the frosting) is that it uses Rhodes frozen bread dough. Just put the loaves in a greased loaf pan, cover with plastic wrap, and stick into the fridge overnight or at least 12 hours to thaw. Then just pull it out and roll out and … [Read more...]
Vanilla Pudding Cinnamon Rolls
Cinnamon Rolls are just such a luscious treat. They are so versatile, too. Eat them for a dessert, an afternoon snack, or breakfast. There are many recipes for cinnamon rolls. I found this recipe from Mel's Kitchen Cafe. She also has a recipe for Cream Cheese Frosting, but I don't like cream cheese frosting. At. All. Not on any cake or any other dessert. Never have. So I used the tub of Betty Crocker Vanilla frosting. Perfect for me. Rolls:½ cup warm water2 tablespoons active dry yeast2 … [Read more...]
Sausage Corn & Broccoli Bake {Totally Tasty Tuesdays}
So I'm not completely sure what this is. It tastes like breakfast, but I don't eat broccoli in any of my breakfast foods. It has sausage and corn in it, too. I made this for dinner and it just confused me. It was absolutely tasty, but my mouth wasn't expecting such a breakfasty taste at dinner time. Don't get me wrong. I love making breakfast foods for dinner. Pancakes are so good in the evening! But I'm expecting that. I plan that. This dish surprised me. To add to my confusion, a serving … [Read more...]
Empty Tombs {Marshmallow Delights}
Empty Tombs are a delicious treat for Easter morning. They are also known as Marshmallow Delights. It's the perfect idea for teaching kids about Christ's Resurrection. I discovered these little treats last year after Easter and knew I would make them this year. They are perfect for an object lesson on Jesus Christ's death and Resurrection. As my kids and I made them, I explained what each step represented. The best was once we opened the "tombs" and saw that it was indeed empty. We made these … [Read more...]
Sweet Rolls with Strawberries {Totally Tasty Tuesdays}
I like turning things that are meant for one thing into another. Like pie crust into the home of these meat pies, or bread sticks into these sweet rolls. It's fun and a little rebellious. Sweet Rolls with Strawberries {Totally Tasty Tuesdays} Print Cook time 11 mins Total time 11 mins Author: Mandy Bird Serves: 6 Ingredients 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries 5 teaspoons sugar, divided 1 tube (11 ounces) refrigerated breadsticks 2 tablespoons … [Read more...]
Mormon Muffins
Mormon Muffins are perfectly soft and fluffy. No boring bran muffins here! Serve them with honey butter and you're all set. Oh these are just from Heaven. You must eat them warm with honey butter. You must. They come from one of my favorite restaurants, The Greenery. That's where my favorite sandwich Fowl Play comes from, as well. Mormons settled in Utah way back in the day (1847) and that's where the name comes from. These are not your boring bran muffins. These are incredible and you … [Read more...]
Popovers
Ever since seeing Popovers on an episode of $40 a Day with Rachael Ray (which I think Food Network needs to start filming again!) I have wanted to taste them. They just look so good. And they are. I finally made some and I wasn't disappointed. You can eat them so many different ways. I shared some with my neighbor across the street and she asked me how to eat them. She'd never had them either. You can serve them with butter and jam, flavored butters (just whip together butter and jam or flavored … [Read more...]
